Every year, we roll out the red carpet for ten lucky students from Anyang, Republic of Korea, treating them to a whirlwind tour of all the fantastic wonders that Garden Grove (and the rest of Southern California) has in store. From high school visits to government tours, top-tier universities to awe-inspiring museums, we're all about immersing our guests in the rich tapestry of California and U.S. history, especially our special bond with Korea.
What’s on the docket?
Welcome Party
A welcome potluck at Huntington Beach with all students and families.
Disneyland
Because how can you come to Orange County without visiting the happiest place on earth?
City Council Welcome Reception
A formal dinner reception where our City Council, Mayor, and staff recognize the student ambassadors and chaperones of Anyang. Following this, the students attend a televised City Council Meeting where they each are presented with a certificate declaring them honorary Garden Grove citizens.
GGUSD High School Visits
Two Garden Grove Unified School District high schools to experience the life of a student, new friendships, American music, culture, customized assemblies and performances, and more.
Los Angeles
Past visits have included The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, The Griffith Observatory, and The Getty Museum.
Local Government Day
Anyang tours Garden Grove City Hall, Police and Fire Department, and library.
University Tour
Tour of one Southern California College University. Previous tours have included University of Southern California (USC), and a personalized tour by the Center of Korean Studies for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Historical Sites
Visits to key educational hubs of Southern California/US history: Mission San Juan Capistrano, Heritage Museum, Richard Nixon Library, Battleship USS Iowa, Korean Friendship Bell, and more.
Free Day with Host Family
This is your day to choose! Some go to LA, some to a theme park, some go crazy at shopping outlets, San Diego- our home is yours to explore!
Some good ol’ fashioned fun
Archery lessons, Karaoke and pizza, bowling, arcades, ice skating- you always have to make sure to fit some fun and friendship.
